Quest for Happiness: Part Two

It felt so good to reunite with family, Anne thought to herself, meeting with her cousins, nieces and nephews she had only seen pictures of, also those she didn't know existed! Most of them had come to pay her a visit and she was glad she brought enough gifts for everyone; she had also gone to visit her older relatives. She had been in Lagos for a week now and had taken a tour, surprised at how much had changed.
Joy lived on the Island, so they left the house quite early that Tuesday morning, the week of her nephews wedding, to do a little shopping and also collect her dress from the tailor.
She had sent her measurement to Joy’s tailor, while at London, to sew a native blouse and wrapper for her and had visited the lady a few days after her arrival for a fitting and now, could collect the finished product. She had also met with the bride and groom to be, John and Susan, and felt they were quite fitting for each other.
Anne remembered when she first met her husband, Edward, in her second year at Stratford campus in the University of East London. He was a year ahead of her, studying Accounting and Finance while she had been studying Business management. She had been awed by him and the year she completed her studies, they got married. It was a quiet wedding ceremony held at a Chapel close to Stratford, with only close friends and family in attendance. Two years after that, they had Alex and he was their pride and joy. They had their happy days and their fair share of fights. They separated once, when Alex was 12; Anne had been suspecting him of cheating on her with a female colleague, as they were usually together and the lady was always sending very questionable messages. She confronted him and in the heat of the moment, Ed, as she liked to call him, left the house. A few weeks later, they got back together and for some years she carried with her the fear that he would one day be up and gone but they stayed together and raised their son.

Now, more than three decades later, she remembered how it felt to be young, free and in love. How most times she felt she was not good enough or that she deserved more, but that was just how life went. It was about Give and Take.
