A week after the wedding, Anne was at her friends' saloon getting her hair done, as she planned on travelling home with a new look, when her phone rang. It was Ebuka, and she couldn't help it, but her heart skipped a beat.
"Hello Anne, this is Ebuka", he said, like she didn't already know it was him from his voice.
"Very well thank you. Sorry I haven't called since I got your number, I didn't want to be a bother."
"Not at all. I was expecting your call"
"So what's good, what have you been up to?"
"Nothing much really, I've just been visiting and trying to keep myself busy. I'm actually at the saloon getting my hair done, you know, just to make myself a bit pretty", she said jokingly.
"Oh, I'm certain you look beautiful with or without your hair done", he said with a hint of a smile in his voice. Anne was glad she was dark in complexion, else, she would be blushing bright red.
"Thank you," she replied calmly, "how's work going?" she asked, trying to bring the conversation to a neutral ground.
"It's been fine. I actually started my leave a few days ago, so I can get some rest."
"That's good. Oh I forgot to ask the other day, where do you work?"
"I'm a marketer at Adex Limited, it's an insurance company in Ikeja"
"Wow, being a marketer at an insurance company, that must be stressful,"
"Yes, most of the time. I enjoy the job thou, I get to meet different people and I'm not limited to a particular location"
"Yes, I suppose so..."
Their conversation lasted for more than thirty minutes and before long, she forgot she was at the saloon with at least seven other ladies and her friend turning frequently to gaze at her.
