What Does The Rainy Season Mean To You?

Rain, rain, rain! It is that time of the year again where it rains almost everyday. Most people enjoy this season, the rainfall, cloudy weather and the cold. Some would actually tell you it is better for them to feel the cold than heat.

What benefit does rain have? It cools the environment; waters the plants and grounds; fills up streams and river; provides water for all living things; washes your car for free among others. When we think this way, we see most of the benefits of rainfall, but as the saying goes, everything has its advantage and disadvantage.

So what are the disadvantages of rainfall and the reason most people 'dread' the season? When there is too much rain, there tends to be floods in areas with bad drainage. This comes with the destruction of homes and properties. Rain encourages the breeding of mosquitoes and flies, due to stagnant water. When it rains, roads are more difficult to go through, most especially in Nigeria, where we have a lot of bad roads and those still in construction. The rate of road accidents is also increased during rainy season. Rain prevents the productivity of people who work outside. An example is that it prevents the work of some farmers and road workers. This is just a short list of what comes with the rainy season.
Personally, I do not actually have an issue with the rainy season, as I was born during this season. So during this time, I gear up with my umbrella, a sandal to trudge through the muddy ground and the hope that it doesn't rain even heavier.
