Pokemon Go: Game That Makes People Kill Themselves

MAIN-Pokemon-GoLast week, Nintendo launched a new game called Pokemon Go and the game is already the most popular mobile game in the world, with more active daily visitors than Twitter. This game, although quite popular, seems to make people forget their exact location and have no regard for their safety and that of others.

There have been a lot of reports of accidents that occurred as a result of those involved paying no attention to their surrounding and playing the game. This has caused a lot of criticism from game critics and the general public. Reports of accidents that occur do not seem to deter people from playing the game though, because there is always a new report of a Pokemon Go accident.
The free game lets players 'capture' digital creatures (Pokemons) at real locations making use of their smartphones. Some digital items to be used in the game can be found at 'PokeStops' which are located in real landmarks. Due to the fact that the game keeps its players moving, this has resulted in a number of trespassing incidents. Last week, three teenagers in Ohio were stopped at a Nuclear Power Plant when they trespassed the site in their quest to capture a Pokemon character. Also, two teenagers who were also playing the game, were shot at after they trespassed into a strangers home in Florida.
More incidents that have happened is the case of two men in San Francisco who fell down a cliff while playing the game. Lucky for them, they only sustained some injuries and were rushed to the hospital by the Fire department. In Massachusetts, a major accident was caused by a man who was playing Pokemon Go while driving. He decided to put his car on park, while in the middle of the highway as he was about to get a pokemon. Another driver admitted to playing the same game when the crash occurred.
The worst Pokemon case for me so far, is the case of a 15-year-old boy who stabbed his brother to death because he thought he had deleted his Pokemon Go account. Later after the deed had been done, he realized that his brother had only logged him out and he just had to sign back in.
If this were to have happened in Nigeria, I would say that the game is possessing people and making them act irrationally. I am sure most Nigerians would back up my claim and probably ask the government to 'capture' the game developers and hold them responsible for the several deaths and incidents.
